Christians, how can you believe two conflicting things?
I’m sure this will get taken down…. it’s a legitimate question. Throughout the bible there are small things that I can’t wrap my head around. Well, I can’t really wrap my head around this book at all, good morals… but still just fables. What I can’t understand is how those of you who actually take the words literally do it. I’ve had so many christians tell me that they believe every word should be taken to heart and that to omit a piece would be putting your own word against God. Well other than the arguments against evolution, the deduction that the earth is only several thousand years old and all the other nonsensical ideas that are in this belief structure that can be argued(the way I would argue that if you cross the rainbow bridge the leprechaun has a pot of gold for you)….. how can you believe two opposing things in your own bible? Contradictions arise throughout the Bible…. MAT 1:6 cites Jacob as Joseph’s father…. while LUK 3:23 cites Heli. PROV 15:3 God is everywhere and sees everything. So God is omniscient but many verses don’t agree with this, when characters hide from God in the garden(can’t hide from an omniscient being) or when God sends angels to check on Sod & Gam(he would know all he needed to know if he was all-knowing) Luk 23:34 why would God get mad if he sent Christ to die like John 3:16 says? The list goes on… I mean, if you don’t take every word literally this isn’t meant for you, meaning don’t leave a comment. Those of you that preach so eloquently(ha) and answer questions allegorically–which are never answers so much as cop-outs. How do you do it, you can’t believe both when they’re two opposing thoughts. Why can’t you just take it as word written by men…. which is fact, I hope we can at least agree on that. I’m not attempting to persuade anyone from believing in God…. you can believe in talking snakes(which you do already if you believe the literal translation of the bible) . I just want an answer to how you get around those little(HUGE) contradictions and believe both? ….when its impossible to believe that God knows all, but then has to gather information from an outside source later…. and once you do inevitably realize–if you’re capable of abstract thought, which you’d have to be in order to navigate your way around to believing every word in the Bible… that’s fucking genius and I want in, explain please! Anyway, lost track…. once you do inevitably realize that every word can’t be true in the Bible(because 2+2 and 4+2 can’t both equal 4 now can they?)…. you eventually have to make peace that some things are just allegorical or analogical…. or just to promote good morals. When you make that leap everything goes downhill, maybe christianity isn’t the fairy-tale it once was. Maybe some of Christianity is flawed, maybe other things that aren’t contradictory are wrong…. if that’s what scares you then that’s ridiculous. Imagine a good friend of yours believing in Snow White and the seven dwarfs. You know that it’s a good story for your friend to mimic into life…. I mean yay, beauty on the inside, blah blah and so forth…. Don’t you want to know what makes your friend believe that other than because it’s in a book and was told to him his entire life? I will even go as far as to say Snow White is a more believable story…. it has fewer miracles than the Bible for sure, but wouldn’t you want to know what makes him tick?…. or why or how he can believe that–btw, snow white isn’t full of contradictions either. Anyway, enlighten me… REAL ANSWERS please?

This is exactly the type of ridiculous answer I don’t want. I was christian as a child….. I didn’t search for contradictions, they’re plainly there for all to see. If you don’t think what I stated are contradictions you fail at life. Also, this question is for those who see NO fallacy in the Bible. You Sir, admit there is human error. Regarding your question about who is Joseph’s dad, the way I understand it, the ancient Jewish culture, indeed the entire ancient world, did not really think so linearly, logically and precisely as college educated westerners do. That is not to say they were any less smart, but the rather the way they looked at life was different. That being said, as I understand it, one of Jesus’ ancestral lines was through Joseph, and the other through Mary. One line is described in one gospel and the other in the other. We wouldn’t call that "precision" accuracy but it was good enough for them in their culture.
This doesn’t explain at all why the Bible would cite two different people as the FATHER

erroneous!!!!!!!!!! That’s just flat out false, there isn’t a set rate at how fast genes can mutate Sir…. some species of Finch has mutated offspring to offspring for many generations in a row, documented. Look the shit up. If a Finch can do it, why not everything else. You also have to take into consideration the different atmosphere millions of years ago and how it may have increased growth rates(hence dinosaurs were fucking huge), dna structure, etc and so forth

I find this particularly hilarious as I see pastors on church everyday shouting in the name of Jesus for me to send them a donation…. earlier in his well-spoken but idiotic rebuttal he brought up that evolution has been re-written to suit itself, that’s laughable… because it’s a theory. Einstein rewrote the general theory of relativity a few times before it was what it is today and it contradicts quantum mechanic theories on a smaller scale… I think it’s funny when people make the old testament/anthropology argument. So if I write the earthquakes in Cali are acts of Mickey Mouse and a thousand years later anthropologists find that my Mickey Mouse scriptures coincide with an earthquake I wrote about that they know happened, it proves Mickeys God

I reckon every religion, esp. including the Christian one has words written by normal men, not God. Somewords were probly altered, not written by his diciples at all, but by popes and dodgy historians, who think they might like to bend some Christian ideals this way or that. And since there’s no penalty for this, they die, it gets written in the book and the blind followers just take it literally. Which is sad, because then you’re that gullible. Christianity, with many other religions, are all flawed. No, Christians i don’t believe in hell, so i’m not going there just ecause you say i am.Some smart person once told me that there was no such thing as homosexuality in the old days. A man found a wife, married her and end of story. Then how come there’s suddenly homosexuality mentioned in the bible?! Come on… And being discriminatory against someone, on any grounds, is morally bad. Not to mention when the pejudice or discrimination is on the basis of their sexuality.. Geez, when will people realize that that’s just disgusting. You have to have had picture a guy getting it on with another guy to perceive someone as "gay", so stop bringing them down.

For the first step in your seeking of the truth in these things, please read the Gospel of John in the New Testament several times asking that if there is a God, that he will make himself clear to you. What have you got to lose? If there is no God, nothing will happen. If there is a God and if Yeshua Messiah really is His Son, I am confident the beginning of your answers will start there.

your question about God being everywhere…the bible doesnt contradict it. Adam and Eve hid themselves, but obviously God knew where they were. They were hiding their nakedness.
God tries to put things in human terms for us. which i would say is vital in communication from a higher being to a lesser one. so i would think that is obvious.
that is why you will hear God’s spirit being likened to fire, wind, cloud or his voice like thunder. notice the bible doesnt say he was those things, but was like them…so they are seeing or experiencing something and that is the best they can describe it.
God always has a purpose in what he does, if not for the immediate then for the long term. Like the writing of the Bible.
i am not going any further in your rant…b/c the truth is you dont have spiritual discernment b/c you dont believe. So these words have little meaning or understanding to you. if you want to look at the bible from a scholar perspective and understand the contradictions you can easily research that on CARM or other sites.
The bible has proved to be very accurate. Archeological evidence has been found to support many historical points in it. And science has yet to disprove anything that has been written.
if you want to hear a fairytale, why dont you look into evolution more. why it took a decade to become excepted when the political agenda of socialism gave people like hilter and marx an escape hatch to contribute life to something other then God and controlled by random chances that they felt they could take control of…
look into Chirality….for DNA, Cambrian Explosion, Irreducible Complexity, 1st and 2nd law of thermodynamic, and the evolution of evolution (history of it changing its colors to suit itself), the study of how its a worldview, the Scientific Descent of Darwin, the fact that life has not been able to be made by nonliving components. Why archeologist still use teeth as determining species in the so called missing link, when its been proven inaccurate, and i could go on and on.
